I visited INESC-ID(Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa), Lisbon, Portugal, from September 1st to November 25th, as part of the required research placement in my 5-year doctoral program at Waseda University. This research stay was made possible through the academic connection and kind introduction of Professor Mattia Marinelli at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).
During my stay, I worked closely with Professor Hugo Morais and the Sustainable Power Systems (SPS) research group at INESC-ID, and my research activities took place at Instituto Superior Técnico. We discussed approaches for congestion management through coordination between electric bus operators and distribution system operators (DSOs). The initial outcomes of this collaboration were also jointly presented at a domestic conference of the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ). These discussions gave me valuable insights into how collaboration between transportation systems and power systems can contribute to more flexible and efficient system management.
During my stay, I also had the opportunity to attend IEEE ISGT Europe in Malta together with Hugo and students from the SPS group, Juan Carlos Cortez, Toni Garcês, and Lunodzo Justine Mwinuka. Participating in the conference and spending time with them outside the sessions became one of the most memorable parts of my stay.
I am sincerely grateful to Ana Rita Nunes for her generous support in arranging and facilitating my stay, and to the researchers and students in the SPS group for their warm support and valuable discussions. This visit broadened my perspective on international research collaboration and further motivated my future work.
Last but not least, I am grateful to my major supervisor, Professor Yasuhiro Hayashi, and administrative coordinators who encouraged me to embrace this precious opportunity.
